I’m Sophie Davies and I’m your Labour Party candidate for the Portishead East election on 6th May

Over 1000 people in our area – including me – live in unsafe housing built less than 10 years ago and with similar cladding risks that led to the Grenfell fire disaster. For me, as a tenant, that means insecurity and 24 hour fire patrol. For owners it also means huge potential costs and even bankruptcy.

Many of these flats were built by developers whose profits were massively boosted by the Help to Buy scheme and the price rises it led to. Yet, still the government is not acting to protect residents and owners from these dangerously substandard buildings. Still they stoke the housing market but ignore housing need.

Developers are getting direct access to ministers whilst social and affordable housing is out of reach for many working people.

I support Labour’s call for a National Cladding Taskforce with a legally enforceable deadline of 2022 to make  homes safe

Please vote for me on May 6th and I will fight for improvements to housing opportunities in Portishead.
