When is the election and what is it about?

The 2024 General Election will be held on Thursday 4th July. The General Election is North Somerset voters’ opportunity to choose the candidate they want to represent them as their MP in parliament.

Who is Labour’s candidate in North Somerset?

Labour’s candidate is Sadik Al-Hassan, an award-winning pharmacist and former local councillor. If elected he will deliver the change North Somerset desperately deserves after 32 years of lacklustre representation by incumbent Conservative MP Liam Fox.

"My two children are the reason I got into politics, to fight for a future in which they and all people in North Somerset have the opportunity to thrive. North Somerset deserves better. I am ready to deliver the change we need." Sadik Al-Hassan – Labour's candidate in North Somerset

I’m a tactical voter. Should I vote Labour or Lib Dem?

The polls show Liam Fox’s majority is at risk for the first time in decades and that Labour’s Sadik is the only candidate who can beat him to win in North Somerset.

Polling by ElectoralCalculus, YouGov, and Survation all predict Labour is best places to win this seat from the Tories and has a realistic chance of winning for the first time in history.

Moreover, Labour has come second in this seat in the last three general elections. The Lib Dems and Greens have come third and fourth.

The Lib Dems and Greens can’t win in North Somerset so tactical voters who want to see the back of Liam Fox and the Tories must consider lending their vote for Sadik.

Who is Sadik Al-Hassan?

Sadik is an award-winning pharmacist currently working in nearby Patchway who has spent over 15 years serving communities on the NHS front line. Rebuilding North Somerset’s NHS and social care system is one of his top priorities.

He has previously served as a local councillor and Deputy Mayor in Emerson’s Green where he campaigned for change on the issues local people cared most about — such as protecting the environment and safeguarding green spaces. As a candidate in MEP elections and others he is a formidable campaigner.

He lives with his wife and two children. His children were the reason he got into politics, motivating him to fight for a future in which they have the opportunity to thrive.

Sadik believes North Somerset deserves so much better and that this General Election is the chance to turn the page on 14 years of Tory Government and 32 years of lacklustre Tory representation in North Somerset.
