Portishead East by-election
Sophie Davies is Labour’s candidate for the 6th May District Council election in Portishead East
I am a Democratic Socialist Feminist. I have lived in Portishead East ward for five years. I work with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, supporting them through their hardest times. I find my work rewarding, because enabling women to recover from domestic abuse and sexual assault is vital, but these crimes should not still be common in our communities. We have all faced huge pressures this year, individually, in families, communities and as a country. I will work for justice, equality and fairness – join me to build a fairer, safer future for Portishead
Why your vote matters
Vote for Action on Housing: We need action to make Portishead homes safe and give young people a chance of affording a decent, secure home.
Vote for Better Pay and Job Security: I will work to ensure that North Somerset Council, and all the companies and organisations it contracts with, pay at least a living wage and give full trade union rights.
Vote for Better Transport: I am committed to better and cheaper public transport for residents to lower carbon emissions. We need the Portishead-Bristol rail link, and to stop cuts to our local bus services.
Vote for Support for Young People: Young people now face a tougher start than for generations. I will fight for more funding for facilities and services that build young people’s mental health and wellbeing.
Vote for a Safer Portishead: I am committed to Labour’s ten-point charter to take action for women to feel and be safer from harassment on the streets and from domestic abuse
