Good local facilities for children and their parents

Labour in North Somerset will:

• Work to ensure safe, accessible and inclusive play facilities within walking distance of all families in towns and villages.
• Recognise the importance of early help and early intervention through family health and wellbeing services and family hubs.
• Support nurseries, preschools and FE colleges to recruit and build the skills of the early years workforce, recognising the contribution childcare plays in family life, gender equality and the ability of parents to take suitable employment.
• Support council to pay fairer wages to the workforce.
• Work closely with multi-academy trusts to make sure all schools are embedded in their communities.
• Campaign for a free school meals policy for all primary school aged children, all year round to promote child health and wellbeing and address parents’ worries around the rising cost of food.
