Election Results

We are proud to announce the results of the 2023 North Somerset District Council elections. Labour gained four seats to become the second biggest party on the council, after the Conservatives. We are proud to have run a positive campaign, focusing on our priorities. The full results and new makeup of the council are as follows:

  • Conservatives: 13 (-)
  • Labour: 10 (+4)
  • Liberal Democrats: 9 (-2)
  • Independent: 8 (-5)
  • Green: 7 (+4)
  • Portishead Independents: 3 (-1)

Our list of councillors can now be found here. Hannah Young, Clare Hunt, Catherine Gibbons, Richard Tucker, James Clayton, Ian Parker, Hugh Malyan, Helen Thornton, Annabelle Chard and Ciaran Cronnelly are looking forward to working towards a fairer, greener North Somerset.

The New Partnership Administration

Our ten newly elected Labour Party councillors have joined Liberal Democrat, Green Party, Independent and Portishead Independent councillors to form a new Partnership Administration controlling North Somerset District Council.

In addition, three of our Labour councillors have joined the Administration’s Executive group, which is lead by the Liberal Democrat and Independent group Leader Cllr Mike Bell. Labour’s positions on the Executive are as follows:

  • Deputy Leader of the Council and executive member for children’s services, families and life-long learning: Cllr Catherine Gibbons, Weston-super-Mare Milton
  • Executive member for highways and transport – Cllr Hannah Young, Clevedon South
  • Executive member for safety in the community – Cllr James Clayton, Weston-super-Mare South
